Hi, I’m Andri @steel.ink
hailing from Bandung in West Java, Indonesia, and my journey as a tattoo artist began 14 years ago, marking the onset of an exhilarating adventure. Art has always been my companion since a young age, despite not being born into an artistic lineage. Fond memories of my father teaching me to sketch a bonsai tree linger from my childhood, igniting a passion for drawing. Prior to venturing into the realm of tattoos, I explored various roles in the art domain, including photography, graphic design, and even working as an animator for a local television station. However, a persistent sense of dissatisfaction and a desire for greater challenges led me on a quest for something more.
The turning point came when I decided to get my first tattoo. Witnessing the intriguing world of tattoo artistry, I sensed an alignment with my quest for creativity and challenges. The allure of making people feel beautiful and confident, coupled with the lasting impact of this art form, captivated me completely.
In 2009, I embarked on my tattooing journey as an apprentice in a biker’s tattoo shop in Java, exploring various tattoo styles along the way. However, I felt the need to carve my own path and develop a distinctive style. This led me to Bali in 2016, the island of gods, where I found inspiration amidst a diverse community of global artists. Here, I discovered my passion for ornamental tattooing, giving birth to what I define as Asian Tattoo Fusion – a harmonious blend of Indonesian, Tibetan, Thai, Indian, and Japanese artistic influences.
For me, ornamental tattooing embodies the culmination of my experiences, presenting a unique challenge in its intricate details and patterns. Over the years, I’ve ventured beyond borders, participating in tattoo conventions in Australia and Europe as a guest artist. The prospect of exploring new countries, immersing myself in diverse cultures, and connecting with talented artists worldwide fuels my ongoing journey.
Looking ahead, I envision a simple yet fulfilling life, pursuing my passion and cruising around islands on my motorcycle. My aspirations include fostering connections and artistic exchanges across the globe. Ultimately, my goal is to continue crafting expansive ornamental projects worldwide, bringing joy to people through my art.
